Winter Carnival

by Alice Salmans

Our second annual Winter Carnival was held on February 6th, and was expanded to include an Ice Fishing Contest. The threat of a snow storm did not keep the hardy-minded away, and we had 5 teams competing for the cash pot. Click here for Tom Yonski's story of the Ice Fishing Contest.

At our clubhouse we entertained our neighbors and children with volleyball, tug-of-war, and other fun events even though we did not have enough snow to make snowmen! Click here for pictures!

Cold hands were warmed by an outdoor fireplace, and tummies by toasted marshmallows. Needless to say, the children had fun. The less hardy folk, including myself, enjoyed the “warmth” of the clubhouse, where we enjoyed good conversation and ‘good eats’; hot dogs and mac’n’cheese, potato soup, and of course, great cookies!

Larry Barnes manned his now traditional hot chocolate station, providing a whizzed product with something special added for the adults! This group stayed warm from the inside, out!

By 2:00 P.M., the ice-fishing teams came in to defrost and hear the winners of the contest announced. The winning 24½ inch pickerel and 13¾ inch perch categories was captured by Jason and Matthew Pondi, while Ritchie Fello caught the winning 14¾” catfish. Congratulations!

A special ‘thank you’ to all our YLPA volunteers, without whom none of our activities would be possible! As always, your thoughts and ideas are welcome to make next years’ Winter Carnival another successful event. Please feel free to email me by clicking this link.
