CSLAP Project

Citizen Statewide Lake Association Program

In our ongoing efforts to monitor the quality of Yankee Lake’s water, we participate in a water-monitoring program funded by the Department of Environmental Conservation and NYS Federation of Lake Associations.

During the summers of 2006, 2007 and 2008, water samples were collected bi-weekly and sent to a state certified lab for analysis. The samples were tested for pH, water clarity, phosphorus, nitrogen, calcium, temperature, and chlorophyll a.

Water sampling volunteers were trained at a CSLAP session headed by Scott Kishbaugh, Director of NY Lake Classification and Inventory Survey from the DEC Bureau of Water Assessment and Management. In addition to instructing volunteers with proper handling and shipment of samples, volunteers were provided with various water sampling equipment, such as a Secchi disk and a Kremmerer bottle.

The water analysis provides valuable information on the health of our lake. We have received the 2006, 2007 and 2008 CSLAP analyses from the DEC (see links below). Recommendations for improving water quality were contained in the Phosphate Newsletter linked below. As property owners, we are all instrumental in the preservation of Yankee Lake.
